Saskatchewan Seal Spotted at Lac La Ronge
The elusive Saskatchewan Seal was spotted off the shores of Lac La Ronge frolicking in an ice break by fishermen last week. This discovery of this creature has the conservation world buzzing as it means an entirely new species of mammal exists in Saskatchewan's northern lakes. "This is fantastic news for the protection of our province's Boreal Forest" says Gord Vaadeland, Executive Director of CPAWS Saskatchewan "A once thought non-existent species combined with Woodland Caribou? That's a goldmine for protection!" Upon hearing the news, CPAWS immediately made plans to work with the fishermen to set up cameras on the shores where the seal was spotted with hopes of catching further evidence of this creature's existence.
No photos exist of the Saskatchewan Seal but one of the fishermen was able to compile this drawing based on his recollection.
