CPAWS Saskatchewan is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to preservation of healthy forest and grassland ecosystems in Saskatchewan.

- to promote wise land and resource use outside of parks and other protected areas,
- to promote awareness and understanding of ecological principles and inherent values of our natural world.
Our Method
- by working cooperatively with others to establish broadly supported land use solutions,
- by advocating science-based approaches to environmentally sustainable development,
- by respecting local communities, cultures, traditional knowledge, Treaty and Aboriginal rights,
- by providing information and educational materials,

Our History
CPAWS Saskatchewan began in 1976. The CPAWS national organization was founded in 1963.
CPAWS has one of the strongest grassroots support bases in Canada with thousands of active members and hundreds of volunteers working with 13 regional chapters.
Our structure is unique among national conservation groups. Decision-making for land use lies largely with provincial governments, and as such, regional chapters lead regional campaigns with support from national office and other chapters. Our programs focus on large-scale wilderness protection of public lands.
CPAWS is solution-oriented. We work with Aboriginal peoples, scientists, educators, communities, governments and industry to help establish broadly support land use policies that aid in keeping our homeland healthy.
In Saskatchewan all of our work has been achieved through passionate and dedicated volunteers and staff working on a variety of provincial conservation issue including protection of the Great Sand Hills and in the establishment of Grasslands National Park. In 1994, our chapter expanded its focus to include boreal forest ecosystems. Forest work began near Dore and Smoothstone Lakes in west-central Saskatchewan, and expanded into northern reaches of the boreal forest.
Our Chapter Governance
Board: A volunteer Board of Directors guides CPAWS Saskatchewan. This Board is independent of the CPAWS National Board of Trustees, however, we operate within national policies and guidelines. Our Board: Sue Michalsky (Chair), Merv Hey, Evan Sorestad, Gord Vaadeland, Morgan Sather, Kyle Hodgson, Branimir Gjetvaj.
